In a perfect world, the printer would supply a profile for the contract
proof or process. What if I want to decide what rendering intent is
appropriate for each image? What if I want to do some editing based on the
output (either while still in RGB or after the conversion to CMYK)? What if
I want to proof the output on my desktop proofer? Can't do this without a
profile. Giving someone an RGB file can work but it's also a huge leap of
faith, especially considering some of the truly awful RGB to CMYK
conversions I've seen a lot of shops produce.
