I don't know if this makes sense, but of the two 23 alus I had, one
looked crappy and died soon, but I looked at the profiling curves of
the second after Basiccolor did its magic -GMB Match 2 failed on this
as per usual. The curves seemed to indicate that the display had been
calibrated in the factory.

My impression is that the Apple 23 CD should be nicely usable straight
out of the box with the default Apple profile, for people who are not
color-aware. If it does not look good straight off, then it has a QC
problem.

Also, striping, when it strikes quickly, appears to occur within the
first 60 or so hours of use, so it may be worth running a new display
continuously for a week or so to check for homogeneity problems. I
suspect that the striping is a problem with the illuminant.
