Hi,
I think these densities are with polarized filters and in Status E.
If you look to the figures some German, Swiss and Dutch printers used to
print a combination of high-pigmented inks and stochastic screening one
will find values in nearly the same range.
The values of K+E Novaspace combined with Creo Staccato (on a Heidelberg
press) were
Cyan 2.10,
Magenta 2.10,
Yellow 1.95,
Black 2.40.
Another combination with Heidelberg FM Satin Screening were:
Cyan 2.10,
Magenta 2.00,
Yellow 1.90,
Black 2.30.
If you compare those figures with the regular inks (polarized. Status
E):
Cyan 1.55,
Magenta 1.50,
Yellow 1.35,
Black 1.95.
there is a substantial difference.
Not as large as the differences Roger showed but that's (IMHO) due to the
differences in measurement systems
You will notice that in the SWOP density values Cyan is lower than
Magenta.
That's the opposite of ISO 12647 for regular ISO 2846-1 inks, the
opposite of the Novaspace (and other European high-pigmented inks such as
Aniva) and the opposite of these Japanese values.
In some other combinations Cyan and Magenta differ just 0.03. (Cyan 1.53,
Magenta 1.50)
When will American printers (finally) follow the ISO recommendations to
change that?
In my opinion Cyan is too low in these SWOP values.
But this discussion would be less complicated if SWOP could provide the
CIE-Lab D50 values..

Henk Gianotten
