I find a lot of printed cyans (100% cyan) at the printers I profile to have
a hue angle of 235 degrees. I always had TR-001's 227 degrees Hue angle in
the back of my mind as a more representative cyan. The other day, I was
profiling a Heidelberg QuickMaster DI and also found 235 degrees. I thought,
then, that 235 was on bit too much on the blue side of the equation but
later, having measured other litho offset presses on glossy coated, even
Fuji ColorArt, it all measured the same cyan hue angle of 235 degrees.
I'm curious on the prevalence of this bluish cyan in the industry in 2004.
Regards,
In the ISO specs for inks 2846-1 (part of Gracol and SWOP) the Lab values
for ink are (if I remember correctly) around 54/-36/-49.
The LCH values are around 54, 61 and 234.
It seems that those 235 values are far better than the 227.
These ISO standards 2846-1 (sheetfed and web) and 2846-2 (coldset ink) are
international so not only for North America.
By the way, the ISO standards as used by ECI, Fogra and BVDM are also in
the 234 region.
There black backing values for Type 1 and 2 papers are 55/-37/-50 for Cyan.
The differences are around 1.0 for L and both 0,9 and 0,9 for a and b.
In Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands those ISO 12647-2 standards
combined with 2846-1 are used in daily production. If you follow the
discussions in English on ECI <email@hidden> you will learn
that the shift in Cyan (compared to the old standards) was the most
difficult one to master. After a few tests they were able to cope that
problem too.
