<x-tad-smaller>Hi,
I am hoping that someone on this list can explain an issue with clipping of the image histogram when converting from a custom made scanner profile to a working space in photoshop.
I have experienced the same problem on two different Nikon scanners, (4000 and 5000ED).
The profiles were made using Profile maker 5
Nikon CM off
Nikon scan gamma set at 2.0, 2.2 and 2.8 for 3 different profiles.
Profiile target scans and image scans are in 16bit.
Image scanned with same settings that profiles were made under.
Image brought into photoshop
Custom scanner space asigned
When checking the histograms while the image is in the scanner space, there is no clipping at either end.
Image is converted to working space via Relitive Colorimetric.
Working spaces chosen were Adobe RGB, Prophoto RGB and Ektaspace RGB.
Each of these conversions results in clipping of the histogram at each end, most notibly at the black end.
It does not seem to matter if the rendering Intent is changed to perceptual or if Black Point Compensation is switched on or off.
The targets I used to make the profiles were Wolf Faust Provia targets and the images tested were aslo on a provia stock. I wonder if the results would be different with a Hutch Color target as I know they have a darker Dmax patch than the Faust targets?
When the same image is scanned with Nikon CM on and the output space set to Nikon Adobe RGB in the scan software, the image histograms are not clipped although the colour is not as accurate.
If anyone could offer some guidance in this area I would be most grateful.
Regards
Simon Olding
