I think there can be difficulties getting a solid black with no tiny
gaps whilst printing at 720dpi on semi-matt papers USING MATT BLACK INK
(instead of photo black). Something to do with the amount of ink on
paper. If we adjust rip to allow more ink to give us a solid black it
can cause over inking problems.
Also, maybe our print head needs replacing after 3 years of busy
printing....
On our 7600 using PHOTO black at 720dpi on the exact same paper the
solid black is not a problem.
We have the matt black setup on the 9600 because we print a lot of matt
or photorag on that machine.
What are peoples views on printing on fine art materials with the photo
or matt black ultrachrome inks?
Graeme

Hi Graeme,
I have to print at 1440 dpi with my 7000, but that's because it does
not have variable droplet printing, so its the only way I can get
solid blacks. With my 1270 printer however, I usually print at 720
dpi. It has no trouble printing solid blacks at 720 dpi. I do not get
banding with either printer. The 7000 is most susceptible, but a good
print head alignment calibration has eliminated that. The only time I
get banding now is when a print head jet is clogged (very rare).
Your 9600 has variable droplet printing, so I dont know any good
reason for you to get banding if you dont have a clogged nozzle, or an
alignment problem (or perhaps some other mechanical problem).
