Re: 32 bits in Photoshop?
Re: 32 bits in Photoshop?
In a simplistic fashion, 32 bit floating point is like asking "what is my relative distance from earth to infinity?". In other words, 8 bit is 256 levels, 16 bit is in the order of 32768 levels, and 32 bit will allow one to extrapolate levels that seem like they are approaching infinity using measurements based on a floating decimal point. This is specifically useful in scientific study, special effects imaging, scene reconstruction and other new technology areas.

It's not a 32 bit integer - it's a 32 bit floating point value.
What does that mean to the user?

Thanks, Jon, but that's not quite what I was asking.
I'm too simple to know the difference between a "bit integer" and a "bit floating point value". </x-tad-smaller>
