Hello, all,
My experience with 8 vs.16 bit tells me one can see a difference on a well
behaved monitor, between an image captured in 16 bit, and the same image
changed to 8 bit in Photoshop when one toggles back and forth between the
two; this difference I see is very, very slight. However, on my Roland 8
channel printer CMYKcmOG calibrated and tuned to a fare-the-well, running
Onyx Postershop ,further calibrated before linearizing, custom profiled with
GMB. There is no doubt that anyone can see the difference between an 8 bit
image printed in 8 bit and the same image in 16 bit printed in 16 bit.
(Postershop is 16 bit enabled and the image is captured in 16 bit).
The difference is in the fullness of the color blending, or a significant
lessening of compression in color transitions, the difference is not Huge,
but anyone can see it.
