The goal of my question is simply
to verify my understanding of profile conversions and at the same time the
trustworthiness of Photoshops info palette to read Lab values.
Soft proofing the colorchecker
file in lab mode using Us Web Coated (SWOP) v2 shows the blue patch (R1C1) is
out of gamut while green (R1C2 ) and red ( R1 C3) are not. After the conversion, using relative the
info palette shows all three patches have moved. Of course the out of gamut patch moves
considerably more than the other two, but I am wondering why it is moving at
all. I realise that the info
palette readout depends upon color settings, and that Lab values will change if
they are different from those used for the actual conversion. I am not using black point compensation nor
dithering for the conversion.
The info palette indicates
movement of as much as 5 points along the a* or b* axis and slightly less along
the luminosity axis. Is this just system
noise or crude user interphases?
Any help understanding would be
appreciated
thank
you
