can you explain for what heatset web offset (and paper type) is FOGRA27 suitable? And FOGRA28?

But you say "for ... some heatset web offset fogra27 is the standard".

I am curious to know what you mean with "some", what are the heatset included and what are the not included in fogra 27. Perhaps you can explain it.

Hello Mauro,

I personally can't find it anywhere explicisely written, maybe Henk has such a document,
so it's more a read between the lines:

The introduction to FOGRA27 says:
Printing process definition: ISO/DIS 12647-2:2004, Offset commercial and speciality printing...

The according ISO/DIS 12647-2:2004 says:
... four-colour offset printing ... by one of the following methods:
heat-set web, sheed-fed or continuous forms printing...

reading ahead, in a footnote to the paper types it says:
the paper types 1 and 2 (gloss-coated and matte-coated) are NOT typical for
web-fed magazine printing EXEPT FOR COVERS

So my conclusion is:

FOGRA27 should be used for heat-set web-fed magazine cover printing

Hi Rolf and Mauro,
it depends on the brightness of the paper.
For very white (and expensive) web offset papers the ISOcoated profile is used.
Sometimes the profile is modified to reduce the TAC (total coverage CMYK) from 340 to 300.
There is no lack of quality, in my opinion, and the consumption of CMY-ink is reduced.
You are right, covers are heavier and are important for the news stand sales.
So in a number of magazines ISOcoated is used for covers. However not limited to covers, as I described in another e-mail, covering this subject.
Regards, Henk Gianotten
