This has come up on the list several times before. I think its one
of the glaring failings of Mac color management that we can't have
the option of assuming that untagged files are sRGB. Instead Apple
interprets them as either Generic RGB or assumes your Monitor Profile
depending on the circumstance. The rest of the world uses sRGB as a
reasonable default standard. Without tagging every file there's no
way to do that on a Mac. I would love to be told otherwise.
