This has come up on the list several times before. I think its one of
the glaring failings of Mac color management that we can't have the
option of assuming that untagged files are sRGB. Instead Apple
interprets them as either Generic RGB or assumes your Monitor Profile
depending on the circumstance. The rest of the world uses sRGB as a
reasonable default standard. Without tagging every file there's no
way to do that on a Mac. I would love to be told otherwise.
Why are you singling out Apple? This has nothing to do with the system,
but everything to do with the way the individual browsers are
programmed. Are you suggesting that Windows, Linux, or anything else is
inherently different/better at a system level than the Mac for handling
color management on the web?
