As far as un-color-managed browser's color behavior is concerned, I disagree
with the statement that "Apple interprets [the image files] as either
Generic RGB or assumes your Monitor Profile depending on the circumstance".
Based on my tests, I have seen that an un-color-managed browser's color
behavior does not change with the circumstances: instead, and in all cases,
these browsers use the monitor profile to display images, though they do
this somewhat inaccurately, as is proven by the very slight differences in
values between what an image looks like in the browser and what that same
image looks like in Photoshop when the monitor profile is assigned to it.
Nonetheless, the appearance is extremely close.
In any case, the image in the browser looks nothing like the appearance that
it has when the Generic RGB profile is assigned to it in Photoshop. I would
say that this rules out the possibility that Generic RGB is being used by
these browsers (unless it can be proven that some do under very specific
circumstances which I have not yet encountered).
Best regards.
