cropping also strips the profile in iphoto 4. And if the image is now
opened in PS and assigned the original profile it had before iphoto
stripped it away, it will have different colors compared to what it
looked like before the profile was stripped away and reassigned back.

Hmm I see that too depending on what I do with the image.
Brightness/contrast then export, image has the original profile
embedded. But Enhance, B&W or Sepia then export yields an image
without a profile. That's with iPhoto 4.
