To be safe, it would probably help if, before starting taking measurements
with your colorimeter, you taped a large enough, and relatively thick, piece
of black cardboard on top of the apple logo on the outside of the cover, so
that no light can get in through that opening.
I don't personally have a PowerBook, but let me know if that fixes it.
