I use a similar testing procedure. I developped custom Lab targets that
I use to test printer profiles with. The targets are created using Adobe
InDesign because of its supports for Lab color mode.
Much easier: using Colorlab. As Bruce says, it can accept text files and
convert to pixels. Just the rigth format is needed:
LAB_IN_IT8
#
# Discrete coverage of the LAB space
#
ORIGINATOR "LABinIT8"
NUMBER_OF_FIELDS 4
NUMBER_OF_SETS 6069
BEGIN_DATA_FORMAT
SAMPLE_ID LAB_L LAB_A LAB_B
END_DATA_FORMAT
BEGIN_DATA
0 0 -75 -65
1 0 -75 -55
2 0 -75 -45
...
...
6067 100 85 85
6068 100 85 95
END_DATA
After calculating the gamut for the profile, I check for each
each of the above 6069 values which one is in gamut. Thus
and a second file, profile-dependant, is built, containing
only in-gamut values for that profile (around a thousand or so)
Open it with ColorLab, and export it as TIF...
now you have the pixels, and can proceed with your testing.
Ignacio, do you have a link for Dr. Morovic gamut article?
Certainly, is his PhD, but you will find his code more useful.
You can get it at

Ignacio
