camera raw and input profiles

Hello,
I have a question concerning the
use of camera input profiles with raw camera format. Photoshop CS doesnt appear to let me
use the camera ICC profile in its camera raw settings dialogue box. The only icc profiles available are RGB
workspaces.
With Photoshop 7 my camera
manufacturer (Canon) converted the raw file to tiff format and it arrived
untagged in Photoshop, which I had assumed to mean that the raw data had
remained unaltered and only the header information such as RGB interleaving and
file format had been added.
Photoshop CS seems to be forcing me to attribute a workspace look up
table directly to device data, which confuses me. Why doesnt Photoshop CS allow me to
open a raw file and leave it untagged, and /or does it matter, is this simply an
icc tag like any other which can be stripped off in Photoshop without any change
to the data.
Any help understanding would be
appreciated.
Thank
you
Eugene
