Well, yes, strictly speaking your point is correct.
But please realize that I am only making a very unscientific empirical comparison here. My claim goes no further than it does, and I don't expect to establish any grand truth. I am doing this in a spirit of shared exploration, using my decidedly limited knowledge and resources.
Nonetheless, I would really be surprised if my observable results were to be turned around if one used the more "consistent" method you advise (common hardware, common software, etc.). Let's also remember that certain displays perform best using their OWN profiling software: for example, one would not try to compare the gamut of a Sony Artisan to that of another monitor by making a profile on it using any software other than the Artisan's own. That may not be a strictly "scientific" procedure, but it sure would not be advisable to use a third-party application for the Artisan.
As far as I am able to tell, the LaCie Blue Eye Pro software is designed to work with an EyeOne Display 2 (though you won't hear that confirmed by either LaCie or Gretag Macbeth). So, this is the combination that LaCie recommends for professional results. If they are wrong, THEY are, not us users.
Thank you.
