It would seem to me that the best way to improve printer profile
creation is to demand linearization ability from the manufacturers.
...and there, I suspect, you have it in the proverbial nutshell, not to
mention hitting the nail on the head and striking 12 o-the-clock.
As there is currently no other way to linearize than by purchasing the
appropriate RIP, it is highly likely that an end user, who could not afford
such a package, would be forced to use a profile editor, which is much
cheaper.
Now than, might I suggest that the first organisation to offer a separate
linearization-only package, and especially for the Epson 1290S, would make
the proverbial fortune
