Richard, clearly you are passionate...but it would appear that your passion
has clouded your ability to comprehend what you read, or even to attribute
it all to the right person. (please recall that I did not mention the
tables...that was someone else.)
I must say that I am sorry--I did not realize that by paying homage to one
it denigrates another by default, even without mentioning that other. I do
wonder, who do we denigrate when we say nothing at all? I also did not
realize that an organization was synonymous with a man (in either case).
I was mainly speaking to the color theory that Dr. Hell taught. My comments
were not born of digital this or analog that, I made no mention of firsts in
anything, but of the principals of color and ink on paper--universal
elements that apply to everything (and that the new people building profiles
with little background in ancient theory would do well to learn). Simply
because we use a different method today, the old principles have not ceased
to be important. My post was simply a posthumous thank you to a man whose
life and work touched mine.
Personally, I only ran one Hell scanner (a 341s); I did not like it for
various reasons. But I very much respect the man whose name it bore. For the
record I am partial to another major brand who brought little to the table
first, but had great engineering and, thus, low total cost of ownership (and
with the turn of a few knobs the seps could be quite beautiful.)
No disrespect to John Crossfield from me.
Daniel
