v4 is fully backwards compatible to v2. There's no way in a million
years v4 can make the transition if we have to manually ensure only
v2>v2 and v4>v4 conversions occur. There's way too much legacy v2
in existing workflows. It sounds to me like a CMM bug, so I'd
wonder what platform iQueue is running on and what CMM is being
used. I wouldn't be surprised if this is a v2 CMM, and instead of
rejecting the v4 profile like it should, it's using it, but using
it incorrectly.
For what it's worth, v2>v4 conversions should get us very slightly
better results than v2>v2, but I've seen it be rather minor thus far.
However I've just seen some v4>v4 conversions using preliminary v4
editing spaces (sRGB in particular) and the results are significantly
different in particular with perceptual rendering which is superior
to both today's v2 perceptual and even I think better than RelCol
+BPC, but I need to see a lot more images.
To really flip the v4 switch, is v4 edit spaces: sRGB, Adobe RGB
(1998), ColorMatch RGB, ProPhoto RGB, etc. and it looks like that
will happen some time in 2006. We already have v4 input, output and
display profiles (at least the ability to make them), and v4 CMMs.
The missing link is v4 edit spaces.
