Oh no! The catch is that each calibration is specific for that
particular Epson paper (and the particular resolution, humidity,
temperature, spectro, etc, etc).
Works with i1, DTP20, DTP70, ICCColor 210/211, and Spectroscan.
You enter all the details above, print the test sheet on the particular
Epson paper, let it dry for 30-120 min, read the lines, and the program
records the calibration data for that particular setup. That data is
then used by the printer driver for that combo of paper and resolution.

I do not see that as a catch. It may be specific but is that
a problem ? Would a universal linearisation be any better ? It
can still be used for "RGB" custom profiles for third party
papers (and inks) based on the same driver settings. It
doesn't ask for Epson paper batch numbers as far as I can see.
There may be another catch however. It will only be of limited
use for third party solutions if the linearisation is not
linked to the paper/driver settings but to the original Epson
profiles. The logical approach would be to link it to the
paper/driver settings as they already have the inklimits,
black generation etc attached. The only reason to link it to
the profiles would be a proprietary solution to sell Epson
paper. The big question is: are the linearisation tables still
working with the Epson driver CM switched off ?
I think Epson isn't really interested in selling RIPs anymore
but likes to give every next generation of printers extra
features to compete with the older generation and the rest of
the market. With Qimage combined this has much of what most
people think a RIP would solve for them.
