I think you chose a bad example when you mentioned 'weights and
measures'.
There have been Internationals Standards for those for many years which
almost all countries in the world have adopted - except USA.
Bob Frost.
The "metric-system" is just a fad. It'll be over soon.
Well as we all knew then, fonts had been under control for years on
the
Mac
and Windows by buying a font utility. Did fonts get tremendously
better
after that point and change our lives? Not for me and my clients.
But for many of us it did get better; we didn't have to buy fonts and
font
utilities any more.
You just had to restrict your font use to the set you received from
Uncle Bill, and you just had to pay the performance penalty of having
all of those fonts loaded all the time.
This is where government mandated standards come in. Just as weights
and
measures need to be defined by government agreements, so will color.
shivers. Please, don't say that. I think we can manage this
sufficiently well without government intervention.
I don't expect Microsoft and Canon will solve everyone's color woes.
Let's not forget, we all had Perfect Color With Our Eyes Closed at one
time; and as huge a step as that was folks weren't satisfied. I can't
imagine that Canon would see it as being in their best interests to
alienate users of the Mac platform.
