The "Printer Color Management" checkbox in Photoshop 5.5, the
"Printer Color Management" menu in Photoshop 6, 7, and CS, and the
"Let Printer Determine Colors" menu in Photoshop CS2 are all
Photoshop features, and they all do the same thing. They attach the
document's source profile to the data being sent to the driver.
What the driver then does with said profile will depend on the driver
and the driver settings. In an ideal world, the driver would do
something sensible, like convert the data to a suitable output
profile, then print it. But we don't seem to live there.

Don't even mess with this area of the driver unless you want to drive

Hi Andrew.
No, certainly. I do not expect ColorSync to work properly from
within the driver. I use the controls within Photoshop, Illustrator
and InDesign to effect proper and accurate conversions to my custom
profiles.
It's more the case that I am trying to understand whether or not
there is some kind of logic behind this type of driver design, or
it's instead a jumble of half-baked features as far as color
management is concerned, and I'm starting to believe that there are
large enough gaps there to keep one away from it at a respectful
distance, and not even try to use it that way.
Regards.
