Created a printer profile with an odd shape.
There appears to be 2-black points in the shape of the profile.
Not a single end point.

Any ideas as to what causes this? Could this also be a result of an off grey balance, prior to profiling?

What you are seeing does indicate poor black neutrality as you suspect.  The center point indicates the luminosity and DMax of the process while the second point indicates the color cast that is present in the blacks. Interestingly, other gamut rendering apps like XRite's GamutWorks and Apple's ColorSync Utility will render your profile differently and with a single black point.

I used to see lots of double black points in poorly linearized photo papers printers like Lambdas, Lightjets, and minilabs. When I started using XRite's MonacoProfiler I found that its 2 step linearization and profiling process cleaned up the black neutrality in these devices. Profiles made with this 2 step process not only show a single black point in ProfileEditor but the final prints made using them look better than those made from any other profiling system I've tested.

I've been demonstrating Profiler's 2 step process to a lot of disappointed PMP owners lately and am pushing for a PMP to Profiler crossgrade offer from XRite.
