I would just mention to the fellows working here with links that:
By definition, original profiles and LAB data are not retained inside links.
However (here comes the shameless plug), our product, Link-o-lator, does
make a "Mega-Link" where you can optionally stuff the source and destination
profile into unencoded/unprotected private tags in your links for future
extraction (and embedding!)
Lastly, our CMYK-CMYK links do give you a couple of choices about how your
black channel is protected (dot-for-dot, or with dot-gain-compensation, or
with manual edits).
