The bottom line is that if your device or RIP's linearization process leads something to be desired, you'll get the best results if you linearize again in MonacoProfiler (MP) prior to profiling. MP uses the linearization data to create a custom profiling target that will have greater uniformity than any generic target.
Pre-linearization is what you are mentioning there.
Hmm, well it might be more accurate to say 'device customized target generation.' Yes, I certainly wish there was a way to apply that procedure in ProfileMaker (which is the software I have). Is there?
The majority has PMP which has no way of generating custom targets based on linearization data so you are stuck with generic targets that don't perform as well. When people profile a non linear device in PMP and see less than perfect gray balance results they often say "oh well, I guess that's the best we can do" when they could be getting better results with MP's custom targeting approach.
We'll see what will happen now that XRite and Gretag Macbeth are one and the same. One can always dream...
Stay tuned, keep dreaming but don't expect anything to happen too quickly. Good minds are hard at work.
