As I mentioned, this paper is off-topic of the discussion, but somewhat
related. To answer your question, it does not deal with CMYK at all.
Specifically, it is a method by which an input device's spectral
sensitivity can be tested for conformity to the color matching
functions by means of a virtual target. A summary in the conclusions
states:
"... the use of computer generated virtual color targets has the
following advantages: 1) Uniform distributions 2) Tunable and wider
color gamut 3) Quick estimation without real chips."
However, beyond the author's intent, this technique has application in
device characterization as well (scanners, cameras). In any case, it's
an interesting paper...
