Dale,

I haven't looked at one closely but I don't recall ever seeing any
hardware controls for adjusting the RGB levels.

There are no external controls. We use an Optical/Spyder to calibrate in standard mode. The only adjustments we find are for contrast & brightness in the Display prefs. Since Optical captures the entire screen we first open the Display pref and toggle between them using Command+Tab.
