Dear Louis,
I owe you and the list an appology. I didn't check that, indeed, the
misleading and contradictory wording was not coming from you but rather from
IDEAlliance's web site itself. Still, as an astute color expert, I think you
would render a service to the color community as a whole if you would not
simply duplicate IDEAlliance's link textually on your own site, for you know
too well that there is a contradiction between "FINALIZED" and "WORKING
DATA". This a contradiction that IDEAlliance should resolve promptly but
they don't seem in a hurry to alleviate the confusion.
So, once again, congratulations TGLC on your new initiative. I'd like to
encourage other companies, X-Rite and others, to also post NewSWOP's ICC
profiles dereived from the WORKING DATA current dataset for people to
download and experiment with. AND I'D REALLY LIKE IDEALLIANCE TO FULLY
DOCUMENT THE DATASETS, once and for all, instead of leaving everyone in the
dark as to the exact press and measurement conditions the dataset actually
reflects (something like a TR-001 kind of report, in an accompanying PDF
please). Judging from an actual RIT press sheet I've seen, it is crystal
clear that although a DTP70-like target was used for the characterization,
in actuality, because of the reduction of the IT8 7/4 target in the press
form, a DTP70 instrument couldn't have been used to measure the actual
sheets (because the DTP70 is very picky when it comes to scaling) but rather
an xy reading instrument like a Spectroscan. So, if the source of the
measurement actually was a Spectroscan why isn't it documented in the CGATS
header of the measurement file? I thought printing and standards had
advanced beyond the middle-ages but I see that it hasn't -- the most
important thing still remain the things we are not told.
