- Thread-topic: profiling through a laminate?
I use three different gloss/satin laminates, and they each have a different
effect on color. One laminate has UV protective qualities, and causes a
serious yellow shift. I only use this one for large posters. All of the
laminates absorb some light and will affect the L* of the paper. The
laminates also increased the gamut of the profiles in the darker areas,
because Epson Ultrachrome inks lose gloss when you get to high amounts of
ink coverage. I tried some matte laminates, but they actually reduced the
gamut.
To answer your question, I can get a match between two proofs with different
laminates, by creating ICC profiles post lamination.
For fine art media, there is a dry transfer laminate called Ultrastable. It
does not work with the RC papers that I use, but works well with
uncoated/matte and canvas materials and might suit your needs.
