Hello Bill,

Am 11.01.2006 um 23:06 schrieb email@hidden:

Greetings,

I am using Best 5.01 SP2 and have a problem with the color in a gradient element. The gradient is about 2 inches in height
and 1/4 inch width. It was created in Illustrator and contains 100% yellow and a gradient of magenta. The magenta is 25%
at the bottom, gradating to 1% at about 1 1/2 inches up. The gradient is created so the 1% holds from 1 1/2 inches up to
the top of the element.

Just to be shure:
You created your file using the press profile?
Which illustrator version did you use? I remember versions not correctly embedding profiles.

When I print this element through the Best RIP with our lin file, press profile as reference, and Epson profile for paper
profile the gradient is much lighter than I know it should be.

What is lighter? Do you say, 25% Magenta is 15%, and 10% is 0% (Even)?
What rendering intent did you use? Does this happen with absolute colorimetric?

The file is saved as an EPS and placed in a Hot Folder on the Best RIP

Below are some experiments I tried and the results:

1 - Send the file through the BEST with CM off and a "canned" lin file - gradient looks correct.
2 - Send the file through the BEST with CM off and our lin file - gradient looks correct.
3 - Send file through BEST with CM on, our lin file, and press profile for both reference and paper profile - gradient looks
correct.
4 - Send file through BEST with CM on, our lin file, and Epson profile for both reference and paper profile - gradient looks
correct.

I'm not quite shure how Best/EFI v5 behaved, but XF is honouring so called "null-transforms":
If source and destination profile are the same, no transformation is used. So
#3 and #4 are the same as switching CM off as in #1 and #2.

Anyone have a clue as to what is going on here? Am I correct in guessing that there is a problem in the B to B translation?

Thanks in advance to all that respond. This will be cross posted to other digests.

-Bill-
