CIECAM is just one appearance model. There are others, some published some not. Some that I have evaluated far outperform CIECAM and in many ways are simpler. You can enthusiastically embrace appearance without embracing CIECAM.

Whaa?! Very disappointing! Do they have a good reason for it?

If confirmed, that is a very troubling position for Apple to take. It seems
to me that there is no future for ColorSync without some implementation of a
color appearance model
