You may be correct in the abstract, but I think that this is a bit of an
overstatement. It's highly impractical too, being that CRTs are fast going
the way of the dodo bird (actually, they pretty much have already).
LCDs don't really show what's going on in the shadows? Depends on the LCD,
the make, the model, the type of calibration and profiling used for it, etc.
It also depends on whether or not one works with a meaningful number of
images in which shadow detail is highly critical, which may not be the
majority of professional users.
And even when it is the case, speaking for myself, I can see what goes on in
the shadows, unless the image is a truly unusual one. You can even use a
dummy curves layer to open up the shadows, one that you turn on when you
need to see more clearly, then turn it off, using it only as a sort of
"flashlight" to see the detail where it's otherwise hidden. I have done that
while working with CRTs too. CRTs were not a panacea either.

It's a bit like holding on to Mac OS 9.x in this day and age: may work for
some of us, but I wouldn't advise it.
