In _this_ case the black-point is not a matter of the "best" monitor.
For the Intelli Proof 213 we use a Hitachi-Panel (like Eizo does for
the CG210). The maximum (or better said minimum ;-) black-point
depends on the used panel first. But then it also depends on the
calibration. We think that gray balance is a vital part of the monitor
calibration. Therefore we iterate the calibration until the gray
balance is extremly well -- you could say "perfect". In the
black-point you have to make a decision if you want the black-point to
be as low as possible: just set all channels to the lowest value. But
then you will accept that in the black-point the color temperature
will be different then in the rest of the levels. The black-point will
be very bluish. So we choose to calibrate the color of the black-point
too and this will raise the minimum black-point somewhat. So you have
to find a good compromise between "black as the night" and "perfect
gray balance including black-point". In the new version of our
calibration software you can specify a target black-point to influence
this. Normally you'll want to leave the default target value of 0 nits
and you'll accept the automatic of the software. Depending on the
maximum luminance you'll achieve a black-point between 0.4 and 1 nits
normally.
With kind regards
