Contract Proof?

Let's say that:

1) You have obtained profiles for Offset Printing Company X.
2) You will be printing CTP with stochastic screening, i.e. a dot proof is not required (IMHO).
3) You have a suitable inkjet + rip of your own that enables you to simulate the "contract" proofs supplied by Printer X, but probably not duplicate the color exactly. The simulation is, however, attainable on press, and you and your client sign off on your proofs for color.

Do you need to buy contract proofs for the job? Will a "digital blueline" suffice to check that all of the elements of the job (type, tiffs, eps's, and whatever else) have been ripped properly and the job is ready to plate? Or would you be insane to print without contact proofs made by the Printer?

Cheers,
