A client of a client has a Canon CLC1180 driven by a Fiery PS-NX600.
They are asking about possibility of calibration and profiling. I
know that the regular calibration routine (which they never do!) uses
the scanner part of the copier to read in a 60-step chart. Can this
be done by plugging in a spectro (DTP41 etc)?
Can't seem to get any technical info on EFI website. Is there a
secret techie website?
Is it possible to create accurate profiles. Can the rip's
conversions be disabled in order to do this?
Can paper or reference profiles be downloaded (over ethernet or from
laptop plugged in) to the Fiery?
I know that traditionally ColorSyncers haven't had a lot of luck with
EFI (I certainly haven't appart from the excellent Best Rip.).
Any tips would be appreciated.
Many thanks in advance
Hi Phil
...
When you output the profile patches make sure that in the Printer
options
under the Colorwise section that CMYK Simulation is set to None.
This will
turn off the colour management but leave the calibration active.
After building the profile you can go back to Colorwise Pro Tools
and use
the Profile Manager function to copy over your profile, and your
simulation
profile of choice, to the Rip and set them as defaults.
I do this a lot and it all works very well. The results are good, but
dependent on how stable the copier is. Give me ring if you get stuck.

Hi Rob
Doesn't "Simulation > None" only turn off rgb-cmyk-simulation while
keeping the output profile active? I cannot say "None" for the output
in the Colorwise setup or in the client's driver menu and have the
choice only between my managed output profiles in a Fiery X12 RIP. I
want to profile different paper stocks in a Xerox DC12.
