"Click the OK button, and the appearance of your spot color will
change, probably far closer to what you see in Photoshop."
Marco. That won't help our friend! If he sends his output file with
the spot colors (does not convert to 4C on output) and he has a RIP
that has a Pantone library then, we're in business. In the event that
David does not have a RIP that is not capable of spot colors, he
would have to manually normalize his colors into whatever works best
for him. Unfortunately, Illustrator is still a quirky program for 4C
separations (and therefore 4C separations of PMS colors).
If it helps at all, I'd recommend NOT using Illustrator for any
separations, but rather import the AI file into INDD, if you have it.
I like to keep a clear difference between the 'programs that generate
content' and 'programs that layout and output my content'. I know
these distinctions blur when every program appears to have the same
printing capabilities, but unfortunately they don't behave the same.
Yes, the PMS library of AI has been terrible for some time now.
Haven't checked CS2 yet, but it would be great if it finally matched
Photoshops separations.
