Ken,
VueScan supports scanner kalibration and uses internal profiles which
lead
to surprising results if not set correctly. Please check the first
tab where
the basic scanning process is set up to activate the calibration
process if
available (depends on the scanner) and the color settings again.
For color settings make sure that VueScan does not change color values
by rendering from one to an other gamut. When scanning your target, set
the scanner and image file profile to the same ICC-profile (in
advanced mode
only). Then open that image file in Photoshop and remove the attached
ICC-
profile - voila, your raw scanner data is there.
Hope that helps,
Karsten

Hi again. I am troubleshooting an Epson Expression 10000 XL Pro,
profiles
made with the Hutchinson 4x5 Ektachrome target and ProfileMaker Pro,
scanning software is the latest version of VueScan with settings
such that a
raw file is saved to disk (at least as raw as is possible).
PROBLEM: The white patch on the target is scanning no higher than
approximately RGB = 190 which is way to dark. I cannot figure out
if this
scanner has "real" exposure control. While there are some controls for
exposure in the software, I believe they are simply a post
processing step
that stretches the scanned values.
Does anyone know if there is a way with this scanner, perhaps with
different
software, to increase and/or control exposure? What software would you
recommend to drive this scanner in an ICC workflow?
On an identical setup--same scanner model, same software and
settings, same
profiling procedure--I am getting a white point at roughly RGB =
235, which
is still a little lower than I would like it to be, but much more
reasonable
than 190.
Thanks in advance!
