After setting the total ink limit, EFI does an individual ink limit where we print out Cyan, Magenta, Yellow & Black linerization wedges. When we read them in, there is an advanced feature that shows where the individual wedges plot on a typical color gamut (I assume L:50). I like that I can see where the individual inks stray from a straight line as I believe this shows where the inks are becoming overinked and therefore unpredictable.

Those who use ColorThink Pro can take advantage of the 'Constrain Channels' feature in the Grapher where you can pull back on each channel and see the resulting gamut change dynamically.
When the proofing system's gamut is set to a single color and made transparent when graphed along with the simulation profile's gamut you can see exactly where to set the per-channel ink limits in the RIP. Just pull back on each channel's slider until the inner gamut shows through, then add to the ink limit until in encompasses it sufficiently.
I have also found that this is very much a 3D task. Ink limiting set using 2D graphs typically does not match up with the simulation profile correctly. We have training for ColorThink Pro happening Wednesday for those who are interested. (contact Rick here at CHROMiX).
