There's no free lunch. You'll have to wait 'til dinner.
Well, my hellofadeal turned out to be too good to be true. Surprise.
Although CDW advertised the $1,221 3800 as coming with the ColorBurst
RIP AND the rep confirmed that it came with the ColorBurst RIP, it, in
fact, did not arrive with the ColorBurst RIP. After a call to CDW, the
answer came back, "Sorry. Our mistake", and that I was free to request
an RMA for return & credit, but they could do no more since they are not
authorized to sell the ColorBurst version. ...and a "Thank you" for
pointing out the error on their web page (which, BTW, has yet to be changed).
At any rate, I wasn't really counting on the CB RIP in the first place
(no sour grapes, here). From what I had heard, the new drivers for the
3800 are very good, and with custom profiles, it should be all that I
need. I spent several quirky years with ImagePrint on my 2200, and
although it produced good results with IP's paper profiles, custom
profiling the 2200 through IP made a significant improvement. No
splitting of hairs or side-by-side comparisons needed.
...which brings up another point. Does anyone want to buy ImagePrint
6.1.3.3 PostScript for a 2200? I could make you a hellofadeal.
