Getting back to what started this thread, my friend bought the 24"
Z3100, and, as an aside, my 3800 delivered on Monday.
In the Epson manual that came with the 3800, they state several times
that although you will get good color with a custom profile using
Epson's print driver, "In most cases you will get better results by
applying color management in your application, rather than in the
printer driver." So basically the workflow will be to convert to the
Epson profile and send it "as is" to the printer with everything turned
off. Moving on to the Paper Configuration window, this is the playing-
with-sliders area, where you can set tree different paper parameters,
drying time, and a slider called Color Density. To quote the manual,
"You may need to change the Color Density setting if you custom profile
was created to optimize D-max and color gamut."
This is a bit of a curiosity to me. Since my profiling software didn't
survive the demise of OS9, I've been having custom profiles generated by
someone else, but I never saw an option on what I had (PrintOpen &
Praxi) to max the D-max and gamut. Where does this control fit in? Do
I output the targets with all of the Epson controls off (the usual way),
and the use this slider as sort of a poor man's profile editing tool?
