John,
The ES1000 and the EyeOne are exactly the same !
But - EFI has an internal tracking of the serial numbers they ship
and use these serial numbers of the EyeOne as a dongle to unlock
certain features in their products.
What works with a Fiery
- calibration (if the Fiery supports ES-1000 calibration - older
products don't support the ES-1000, and it is locked out by the
Fiery, not by CWS or ColorWise release)
What does not work with a Fiery
- automatic spot color creation (use Gretag EyeOne Share to read the
valuse and copy/paste them instead)
- creating your own profiles
Things may differ with other EFI products (like former Best solution
or Splash RIP).
Be careful with an ES-1000 as a replacement for an EyeOne though -
older devices are always UV-cut. If your workflow is supposed to be
without UV-cut (like ISO, as of definition) you might be in trouble.
Hope that helps,
Karsten

For those of you working with Fiery, has anyone used an eye one in
the place of their ES 1000? It appears that they are exactly the
same device but Fiery wont see my Eye-one. Is it different firmware?
