Perfectly obvious Paul. The file was probably tweaked in CMYK to look good on press, so they thought that they'd lose all of that work if they went back to the original RGB file, and as everyone knows - 4 colors have more gamut than 3. At least that's what one printer told an art director I know and she bought it. She always demanded CMYK from us because in her mind RGB would be limiting the color. It has one less letter!

The image I sent was in sRGB and included a deep rich red color. I told them to produce a RGB file from it (to be printed on wide gamut CMYK inkjet printer). They produced a RGB file, but from a previously press CMYK converted image! As a result the red was killed and the printer had to tweek the colors in Photoshop to make it look somewhat like the original picture. Nothing is obvious, ever!...
