I've measured up to 19mil canvas with my DTP70 without much of an issue. Biggest problem I've had is with media that is too "slick" such as UV or aqueous coated press sheets.

Couple of tricks/key things:

1) It helps if you "force feed" the material into the rollers a bit to get it started. Remove the cover and shove the material into the nip of the rollers. Replace cover and start the measurement.

2) Try using charts that are less than the maximum allowable length. Letter size charts tend to be a bit more reliable than full 16" charts. I've been experimenting with 18" and 24" charts on the '70 and for the most part they work OK with normal inkjet media but for anything that's too thin/thick, they are less so.

iCColor's tend to be very tolerant of thick media (my iCColor saved my bacon on at least one occasion where the stock would not go through my DTP70). I believe an iCColor's rollers are driven both top and bottom as opposed to the DTP70 driving only the bottom set of rollers. As far as skewing and such, it's better/more reliable to feed multiple shorter charts than one l-o-n-g chart.

I've got two of my iCColor's up for sale (one UV-cut, one no filter) but I keep thinking I'll probably keep one of them just to have around for stuff the DTP70 cannot read and still have the convenience of an automated x/y spectro as opposed to pulling out my Eye-One or Pulse (shame the Pulse is being discontinued, it was and is a sweet little spectro).

Later,
Terry

I tried with canvas at 0.020" and it was not possible. I talked to the

it did not work.

I have 3 ICColors that read several charts a day, 250 days a year...they
read this type media, but have difficulty with skewing. Basically, the
media migrates in a twisting direction over the length of the chart. It
takes some 'finesse' to position them where they will read...
