The new profile, "Coated FOGRA 27 (ISO 12647-2:2004)" is the same profile as

The original name left the impression that our profile was sanctioned by
ISO, which is not the case.

I wonder if anyone in Europe would ever expects sanction from DIN (Germany's National Institute for Standardizations) to sell DIN A4 paper.

It must be something American, maybe a different concept of the term "responsibility"? (In almost the same manner we don't think it's necessary to write "keep away from babies" on plastic bags ;-)

I suggested "Adobe ISO Coated" a few days ago (and "Adobe ISO Coated v2" for a FOGRA39 based Profile). I think that's a much more straightforward concept for similarities and differences between profiles like e.g. "Adobe ISO Coated" and "ECI ISO Coated": two Profiles from two vendors for one and the same standardized printing condition. ISO is responsible for the specification of the printing condition they refer to, and the vendors are responsible for the gamut mapping, black composition and accuracy of their profile.

I think it's *badly* needed to refer to the data set (output condition identifier) specified in the ICC registry (e.g. "FOGRA27" or "FOGRA39") -- but not as part of the name (or description): This information needs it's *own tag* and must be machine-readable to be of use!

Distiller (at least v.7) can't create correct PDF/X-3 files with Profiles other than those "sanctioned by Adobe" <g>. The correct output condition identifier e.g. "FOGRA27" is only set for Adobes profiles and the assignment is hard coded somewhere deep in the Distiller Library -- If you want to use any other Profile, Distiller sets the output condition identifier just to "Custom".

I mentioned this "missing link" between output intents and ICC Profiles some one and a half year ago in the ECI mailing list. Maybe with FOGRA39 and CS3 one should jump at the chance and fix it.

Hey, Adobe, ECI, ...: how about taking a look at http://www.color.org/signatures2.html ;-)
