Kind of defeats the idea of the ICC format doesn't it ?
ICC uses a tagged format so that it is clean, extensible,
and capable of storing arbitrary data. And the best thing,
is that by simply making use of the tag format that ICC
is built on, there's no need to add yet another complex
software library (XML parser), that operates differently
to everything else processing the file. Given that XML struggles
with binary data, I'm not sure that it will ever be suitable
for general color profiles.
Now I'm sure that XML has a place in things, particularly
if you're starting with a clean sheet, but I have my
doubts that it's some kind of magic pixidust.
