Title: Re: HP's New Printers
As I said in another post the SDK is very good. You can use the driver with it’s resident lodged linearisations, and central profile distribution to client seat computers, and use third party software rips with their own linearisations, and custom profiles/profiling and their custom calibrations . There are other options as well to come in the way of printer language options for saving out spooled files and so on.
For the prepress side GMG and EFI both have been working hard to bring their solutions to the Z printers, and on the photo side GMG have a module , as well as the photographer's well loved ImagePrint is near completion. There are others too, but as CD Tobie said , most photographers will get most of the way there with just the driver.

That is indeed the exact question. Particularly if the paper in question is one that the OEM has already profiled. Sometimes though, we and clients like to print on papers that are not on the OEM path. To do such, IMO, is an exercise in futility if one cannot control the channel reduction and ink limits.
