Not sure what you're referring to since the I have the manual and some
related PDFs, and they all accurately refer how the GE works. Correctly.

This is incorrect; where did you hear this from? It's one of the 12 inks
(just a transparent one) and it's layed down at the same time.

Page mode the gloss differential is notable in comparison to the paper,

I'm coming from a photography POV, and gloss differential is effectively
eliminated, which is one of the main functions of the GE, the other being
elimination of bronzing, which it does very well.
FYI: I have the Z3100 printer.
