Hi there,
Been too long since I posted anything, so I thought...why not take the
opportunity here. First of all, it should be said that Link-o-lator and
LinkProfiler (as Roberto mentioned) are great products that have lots of
advanced features for building link profiles. If you're looking for the
highest level of control over link profile workflow, you might want to take
a peek and see what those products can do.
On the X-Rite side...there's now 2 products that build links: MonacoPROFILER
and ProfileMaker. X-Rite ProfileMaker...sound funny? ; )
Anywho, on the MP side, these are the things you should know about making
links:
1) You may notice that the software does not ask you to specify rendering
intents for both sides of the link. That's because it builds an entirely new
transform to construct the link - as opposed to merging 2 halves of 2
profiles together.
2) Preserve paper color allows you to emulate the paper or not. This would
be akin to using either relative or absolute colorimetric tables - even
though it's not because MP builds an entirely new transform
3) Preserve black basically allows you to keep the transform of the 100%
K-only input as pure K output. The actual K value may change, due to the
difference in the blacks of the 2 "linked devices". For example, if the
outbound black is more dense than the inbound black, then it will be scaled
to reproduce the proper tone weight. Other than the 100k-only input,
everybody else gets a CMY partner.
Hope this helps.
Marc
